Cambria Apostrophe Problem Microsoft Word Mac

For some reason, Microsoft doesn't seem to like plain old traditional 'straight' quotes, or quotes without any curves or contours. Instead, it apparently prefers the more stylized, curved 'smart' quotes.

If it's only a Word problem, than is it only with a certain file or you have this problem in any Word file? If it's in any Word file, than it's probably either an autocorrect option or encoding problem. I experienced the same problem when I copied a text that has an apostrophe from a Word document to my HTML code. To resolve the issue, all I did was deleted the particular word in my HTML and typed it directly, including the apostrophe. This action nullified the original copy and paste acton and displayed the newly typed apostrophe correctly. The problem? Smart quotes don't seem all that intelligent when they mess up the formatting in certain files or on web pages. So it can be a good idea to change the default smart-quote setting in Microsoft Office apps to the straight versions. Thankfully, Microsoft makes that fairly simple in Word, Outlook and PowerPoint — at least once you learn the proper processes.

  10. Click OK.

  11. Finally, click OK one more time on the Editor Options box to confirm your changes.

  1. Click the File tab in the top-left corner of the PowerPoint screen.

If you ever want to re-enable smart quotes in the future, in Word, Outlook or PowerPoint, just repeat these steps and then re-check the appropriate boxes for 'Straight quotes' with 'smart quotes'.
